Seeking manager for established 2 acre certified organic farm on the Saanich Peninsula, Vancouver Island. Owner has been farming for 20+ years and would like to take a back seat. Great opportunity for experienced farmer to step up to management without the difficulties of establishing a new farm. Must continue to run the farm as certified organic and work with our established marketing business, Saanich Organics. Three Oaks Farm has been in operation at this location since 2006. We have approx .5 acre in 4 unheated greenhouses and approx 1.5 acres in field crops. We grow 30-40 different crops and emphasize succession planting to have a steady supply of short term items. Salad greens, tomatoes, strawberries, leeks, peppers, carrots are some of our bigger crops.

Pay is $13/hr for 40 hrs/week plus unlimited access to produce. Hours are Mon-Fri 9-5. At this time there is no accommodation available at the farm.

Volunteering

If you would like to eat more of our organic produce, but have more time than money, we encourage you to come out and do a trade for food. We accept a range of volunteer commitments, but it works best if volunteers can commit to coming out on a regular basis because we can be prepared to have something interesting for you to do.

Apprenticeships

Some of the farmers with Saanich Organics take one or more apprentices each year. Apprenticeships can take many forms: from living on the farm, to coming out several times a week. Apprenticing is a more formal arrangement between the farmer and a person who expresses a strong interest in farming as a career. We usually recruit apprentices through SOIL.org but if you are interested, please get in touch.

Employment

Every year we do some hiring of paid staff for our farms and for the marketing side of Saanich Organics. We have a greenhouse manager, field hands, administration, farmers’ market attendants and box packing jobs. If you are interested in a paid position with Saanich Organics, please submit your CV by email.

Please email us at info@saanichorganics.com to let us know if you are interested in any of these opportunities.

At present (May 2017) all field hand positions are filled till late August.  Check back periodically for openings, or get in touch in January regarding next season.
