Cascadia Sugar Snap Pea
Crunchy and sweet! Suited to the west coast and enation resistant. A delicious snack in the garden and fun to grow with kids. Plants grow to ~4’ high with support. Seed in March/April, or early July for a fall crop. Seed liberally 2-3 inches deep along a trellis, a little deeper if planting in summer. 7-14 days to germinate, 70 days to maturity. ~100 seeds.

Planting Peas
Plant peas as you would for fresh eating, in a dense row with a trellis that they can climb. If you are growing peas for both fresh eating and seed, set aside some seed plants that will be left unpicked.
Seed Maturity
Allow pea pods to dry completely on the plant, then harvest either individual pods or cut entire plants and lay to dry on a tarp in a dry, warm - but not hot - place with good airflow.
Seed Cleaning
Thresh the seeds by laying the dry pods or entire dried plants on a tarp and stomping and shuffling on the plants to crack open the pods and detach the seeds. It’s important that seeds are very dry at this stage to prevent them being crushed by the threshing process. Shake the threshed material through a screen, allowing the seeds to pass through and the larger debris to remain on the top. Then, winnow using wind or a fan, pouring seeds from one container to another while allowing the lighter chaff to blow away.
